We have an opportunity to transform our cricket facilities in Great Bentley for the next generation and beyond.
The Cricket Club is seeking support for a unique venture to secure its future and the future of youth cricket in the village. We have the opportunity to expand, and add a brand new purpose built contemporary cricket pavilion and ground. This will include a new indoor cricket and sports Academy which can be used all year round with far reaching benefits for the village.
The Club has outgrown the current pavilion, and the cricket pitch which is situated on the village green, limiting what can be achieved within the current footprint in terms of the progression of the Club.
This will be funded by Hills Residential alongside a new housing development proposed north of Weeley Road, opposite the Taylor Wimpey site.
Great Bentley has seen many new housing developments but there has been little community benefit for the people of the village. The Club have been proactive and worked with Hills to design a facility that can meet the needs of the Club and community.
Hills have agreed as part of a new application to build these facilities as long as there is sufficient support from the village, and both the District and Parish Councils.
This is an opportunity to transform sport in Great Bentley as well as providing a hub for the local community. Whilst the primary focus of this proposal is youth development, these proposals will transform opportunities for generations to come.
The new Academy will enable:
- Year round training for cricket, football and other indoor sports
- New bar and catering area
- Opportunity for local schools engagement 4 new indoor nets and associated facilities
- Accessibility for all
- Significant improvements for girls’ and womens’ cricket
- Versatile space for events and meeting rooms
- Much needed facilities for young people.
